For centuries, the Khanqah has been a haven of peace — where hearts are purified, minds are illuminated, and lives are transformed through remembrance of Allah and service to mankind. Its legacy continues under the stewardship of Idara Auqaf Islamia Jamia Masjid Hamdania Khanqah Faiz Panah Trust, now registered under Section 8 for religious and educational advancement.
Hazrat Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (R.A.), affectionately known as Hazrat Shah-e-Hamdan, arrived in Kashmir around 1372 CE (774 AH), initiating a well-organized missionary and spiritual movement that established dozens of Khanqahs across the region. This noble visionary — a Persian Sufi saint, scholar, poet, and missionary of the Kubrawiya Order — played a transformative role in spreading Islam across Kashmir and Central Asia.
Revered for his intellect and compassion, Shah-e-Hamdan (R.A.) authored numerous treatises on Sufism and Islamic theology, including “Dhakhirat-al-Muluk”, “Risalah Maktubaat”, “Awraad-ul-Fatehah”, and “Chahal Asrar”. Through his teachings and introduction of Persian handicrafts, he reshaped Kashmir’s religious, cultural, and economic landscape — leaving behind a legacy that endures to this day.
After the Visal of Shah-e-Hamdan (R.A.) in 1384–85 CE, his illustrious son Hazrat Mir Muhammad Hamadani (R.A.) continued his father’s mission, founding Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah in Doru Shahabad during the late 14th century (around 880 AH). This Khanqah became a vibrant center of Sufi learning, spiritual reflection, and social reform in South Kashmir.
Within its sacred walls, seekers engaged in Zikr (remembrance of Allah), Muraqaba (meditation), and rigorous spiritual training. The Khanqah also served as a Madrasa (Islamic School) imparting education in Arabic, Persian, Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, and Sufi literature — nurturing both spiritual and intellectual growth among the people.
Over the centuries, the Khanqah became the beating heart of Dooru’s Sufi culture — inspiring poets, scholars, and devotees alike. The mystic ambiance of this sacred space gave rise to legendary poets such as Mehmood Gami (1765–1855), known as the “Jami of Shahabad,” and Rasul Mir Shahabadi (1840–1870), who chose to be buried beside the southern window of the Khanqah — a testament to his spiritual devotion.
The Khanqah’s influence spread through annual Urs celebrations commemorating Hazrat Shah-e-Hamdan (R.A.) on 6 Zil-Hijjah and Hazrat Mir Muhammad Hamdani (R.A.) on 17 Rabi-ul-Awwal, as well as monthly gatherings on the 6th day of every Hijri month — uniting thousands of devotees in remembrance, brotherhood, and divine love.
Historically, the Khanqah’s administration was overseen by a line of Mutawallis (Caretakers), including revered saints such as Hazrat Syed Ahmadullah Sahib, under whose leadership the Khanqah’s second reconstruction was completed. Later, dedicated figures such as Haji Muhammad Ismail Mir, Haji Ghulam Rasool Keelo, Abdul Khaliq Budroo, and Haji Ghulam Rasool Mir continued this sacred duty — overseeing expansions and renovations that preserved the Khanqah’s heritage for future generations.
On November 11, 1979, the management transitioned into a formal organizational structure — the “Idara Auqaf Islamia Jamia Masjid Hamdania Khanqah Faiz Panah Trust”. The Idara adopted its constitution on December 23, 1983, and held democratic elections in 1984, with Mr. Mohammad Jabar Khan emerging as its first President.
Under successive leaderships — including Advocate Sher Ali Bodha and Prof. Syed Ghulam Nabi Bukhari (the current President) — the Idara strengthened both its infrastructure and transparency, initiating expansions, technological upgrades, and the establishment of the Darul Uloom Hamdania Doru — a residential institution offering free religious and contemporary education.
In 2022–23, to safeguard the Khanqah’s independence and assets, the Idara was converted into a Section 8 Organization under the Companies Act, 2013, officially registered as “Idara Auqaf Islamia Jamia Masjid Hamdania Khanqah Faiz Panah Trust”, promoting religion, education, and charity.
The organization now operates under the governance of its Memorandum of Association (MOA) and Articles of Association (AOA), ensuring complete transparency and accountability. Its CIN is U88900JK2023NPL015143, with PAN AAHC13386F and TAN AMRI11665D.
Today, the Khanqah stands as a living symbol of the timeless mission of Hazrat Shah-e-Hamdan (R.A.) — a sanctuary of light, learning, and love, guiding hearts and communities through the enduring message of peace, humility, and devotion.
